Dax Delivered: 16 | Birthing Orion ARCs!

dax: delivered.

Hello amazing subscribers!

I am still out of town and doing caregiving for my chosen-brother, so this newsletter is a little late. Thank you for being patient. I kinda have accidentally adopted a stray cat that hangs around? The cat is polydactyle, meaning he has extra toes! He has two extra toes on each paw. This is actually a dominant trait in cats, and many cats were bred for this trait on ships, as they were considered better hunters. They are also known as “Hemingway Cats” as he kept them. The Hemingway estate still has many! We are building him a winter cat shelter.

If you have stray or feral cats, you can build a snow shelter, too!

Good news! I am now a member of The Kraken Collective! What is The Kraken Collective?

The Kraken Collective is an alliance of indie authors who have pooled resources to publish high-quality fiction while retaining complete creative control over our stories. We aim to provide a wide variety of science fiction and fantasy stories, all starring LGBTQIAP+ characters. From alien hunting lesbians to complex political fantasy, The Kraken Collective publishes queer SFF that will blow your mind away and leave you craving more.

I am really excited to be part of this amazing group, and my backlist has been updated to be re-published with Kraken. Birthing Orion (Out October 18!) will be the first one of my books published from the outset with Kraken! You should definitely check out all of the books Kraken has as they are all very good.

If you can’t wait until October for Birthing Orion, why not have an ARC? This is a very rough ARC, as I did the formatting myself. It goes off to Pretty AF Designs on Monday to have interior art and other beautiful flourishes added! I might still be making last minute corrections and tweaks to this, so it’s definitely not the final! Please don’t share this elsewhere! If you do enjoy it, consider leaving a review on Amazon and Goodreads! While it’s currently only available for pre-order on Amazon, I am getting it up on Kobo, Nook, and many many more! You can always check out my b2r landing page for when it’s up on other retailers!

#amwriting

I’m currently working on my next work, tentatively an APRIL 2019 release. I have mentioned various parts of it in this newsletter previously, but it the first book in a planned series. This books is titled AFTERIMAGES: BURNING BRIGHTLY STORIES. It is a collection of interwoven short stories set in the same secondary world and the events leading up to a slow-burning revolution. I’ve got all of the stories plotted out and most of them written, if still in very rough drafts. A few of them are very polished and ready to go! Merilliza Chan already did the cover for it! I will probably be doing a reveal for it in November!

The fun part is that the main story of the series follows three people very tightly, but this collection let me tell tertiary tales from many different cultures. I have been doing a lot of research for this series, and the central story is what I went to Madcap Retreats with in March. I am very excited to be focusing on it 100% now, instead of the divided attention it got as I was working on Birthing Orion.

#giveaway

I’ve got a very late giveaway! Congratulations to Tylea, winner of the copy of SEAFIRE! And congratulations to Sareh, winner of DARIUS THE GREAT IS NOT OKAY.

For October, I’ll be giving away a physical copy of THE SPY WITH THE RED BALLOON by Katherine Locke!

Do you like queer teens punching Nazi’s? Do you like science and magic? Science-magic? Then you NEED this book! It’s the companion book to THE GIRL WITH THE RED BALLOON, but you don’t need to read them in any particular order (although, go read GIRL, it is AWESOME).

Siblings Ilse and Wolf hide a deep secret in their blood: with it, they can work magic. And the government just found out.Blackmailed into service during World War II, Ilse lends her magic to America’s newest weapon, the atom bomb, while Wolf goes behind enemy lines to sabotage Germany’s nuclear program. It’s a dangerous mission, but if Hitler were to create the bomb first, the results would be catastrophic.

When Wolf’s plane is shot down, his entire mission is thrown into jeopardy. Wolf needs Ilse’s help to develop the magic that will keep him alive, but with a spy afoot in Ilse’s laboratory, the letters she sends to Wolf begin to look treasonous. Can Ilse prove her loyalty—and find a way to help her brother—before their time runs out?

Thanks so much for subscribing and being patient! Don’t forget to download your BIRTHING ORION ARCs!

Til next time!
