Hello beautiful denizens of this galaxy! In this issue I am going to be going over some cool updates about where I am with my poetry, short stories, and novels that are current works in progress. I am going to share with you some of the awesome books I have just read or am currently reading, and I’m going to give some exciting updates about covers for my next works! Finally, stick around to the end for an exciting GIVEAWAY.
I am working on my next novel, but it keeps being interrupted by a lot of other smaller side projects. Focus? What is that?!
“How To Lose A Throne” (working title, novel) -It’s got an ensemble cast of queer teens living above a bakery and making art, magic, and possibly political mayhem. As the scions of former nobility, revolutionaries, and ancient conspirators, they must figure out how to make their found family safe and create a world that has a space for them in it.
“After Images” (Short Story) - Same universe as my novel, but focused on a young adult with a disability trying to figure out where they belong in their community and how they want to relate to their disability. Also metal magic and visions from the past. I’m really excited about this one, I’ve had a few people edit and beta it (thanks, Jen and Ana!).
“Tiny Explosions At Uncomfortably Close Distances” (Novellete) - Sorta a prequel to the novel, following some of the queer teens before they live above the bakery as they create their family and work through the logistics of all living together, while one of them finds out their abusive father is scheduled for execution. It’s messy and painful but has a lot of genuine moments of “aww” and the requisite polyamorous attempts at keeping a shared calendar but no one remembering to check it.
“Spark” (Novella) It follows the life of the mother of the protagonist in the novel, as she makes her way through political intrigue and tries to protect her fathers from the wrath of a king.
“Lessons in Prophecy” (Novette) set in the same world as the novel, a few years before its main events! Three witches in a polyam love triangle with each other try to plan for a witch initiation, but the witch in question accidentally does a very dark prophecy for a very important noble.
“Birthing Orion” (Poetry Chapbook) I am putting together a chapbook that is a story in verse about love, creation, destruction, and sonnets about black holes. I may have been having fun with astrophysics. Some of these poems are up on my Patreon in draft form if you want a sneek peak!
What can you expect SOON?
I am currently making my way through “The Artful Edit” and I’m writing down so many good tips and putting them all over the space above my desk. I’m really learning a lot and I can’t wait to employ some of this goodness as I go back through my various WIPs.
For my fun reading, I just finished “The Queens of Innis Lear” by Tessa Gratton, whom I met at Mapcap Retreat! She gave an amazing presentation on world building and coding and really inspired me to go back at the world I am building now and think more concretely about how I was setting it up. And reading this book after sitting in on that workshop is really making all the stuff she talked about sink in. There are so many awesome forms of magic in these books, and all of the characters have really moving arcs. It’s a long read, for sure, but totally worth it.
ALSO I’m the 2nd stop on a DARIUS THE GREAT IS NOT OKAY by Adib Khorram #ARCTour and it arrived YESTERDAY. I met Adib at Madcap and he is awesome and I have not finished the book yet, but so far? Awesome. I was going to squee-out and take lots of amazing photos, but my phone is not currently functional. I am on hour 45 of having no phone and it’s great for my writing and reading but not cool for like ANYTHING ELSE. But I promise pics will be INCOMING SOON.
THIS IS THE BIG NEWS I HAVE BEEN KEEPING INSIDE ME FOR LIKE A FEW WEEKS. CAP LOCKS CANNOT CONTAIN MY EXUBERANCE. It’s finalized! I have signed a contract with Merilliza Chan to provide cover illustrations for two upcoming projects! One, my poetry collection coming this fall, and two, the short story collection coming late this year! I am really excited to work with her, as I loved the illustrations she provided for The Uncommon Wolds books and The Air Awakens books.
I am going to be hosting several giveaways over the next few months, so you definitely want to stayed tuned. All giveaways I host are international!
This month’s giveaway is “Blood Rose Rebellion” by Rosalyn Eves! I met Rosalyn at Madcap Retreat last month, and the second book in the series, “Lost Crow Conspiracy” came out at the end of march, so there is no better time to get into this series than NOW!
“This richly imagined historical fantasy enchants while contemplating sexism, classism, and how best to effect social change. Intrigue, action, and star-crossed romance abound, propelling this trilogy opener toward a heartbreaking yet hopeful conclusion.” - Publisher’s Weekly

I swear my pets KNOW that I currently have no way to capture their cuteness and they ARE MOCKING ME by being EXTRA cute. I have told them that the good people of my newsletter will have to accept a photo from 76 hours ago. They are not pleased. I hope you will accept these photos!
Here is stormy looking incredibly pleased with himself as he found a really good basket to sit in.
Luna, my leucistic ball python, takes a very cat-like approach to her hides: if she fits, she sits. Sometimes she doesn’t fit so well.
One final ICYMI: I put together a post on some of my favorite books to use while writing! Thanks for being awesome! See you elswhere on the interwebs!
